The Old Tonbridgian Golfing Society welcomes all OT golfers who wish to play.
There are many extremely good golfers in the OTGS but at the same time many of our members play off much longer handicaps. The OTGS is by no means elitist and OT golfers of all standards are made most welcome, so long as they play quickly!
Members are encouraged to apply to play in our matches and meetings without waiting to be invited and the mechanism to apply for our events through this website now exists.
We have about ten matches per year in addition to our numerous meetings. The Spring Meeting, a two-day event, is probably our main event each year. It is always played on a championship course and it returns to Sandwich and Deal in 2011 and every third year. This year we will be holding our Spring Meeting at Aldeburgh GC. The very popular Summer and Autumn Meetings are both one-day events. The venues for all these meetings are wonderful courses and indeed membership of the OTGS will enable you to play on some of the country's finest courses. Our Winter Meeting is more relaxed and played over 18 holes on one afternoon with a dinner that evening and another 18 holes the following morning, so there really is something for everyone.
In addition to the above we hold meetings for those who are Under 30 years of age as well as for those who are Over 55. There is also an Annual Handicap Knockout competition each year which is the greatest fun and about 60 members take part each year.
There are a few Old Boys' competitions which are Scratch events and where participation in the OTGS team is by selection, but anyone wishing to be considered for these teams is welcome to contact the team captain via the Contact Us page of this site. These events are clearly identified in the Fixture List.
The Halford Hewitt competition is the leading Old Boys' event each year and 64 teams of ten play at Royal Cinque Ports GC, Deal and at Royal St George's GC, Sandwich over four days. Tonbridge has been one of the leading teams over the past twenty years and won the event in 2008 and 2009 - and five times since 2001. We also enter a team in the Bernard Darwin Trophy (for Over 55 year old golfers) which we have won for the last four consecutive years. We also enter teams in the Senior Darwin (Over 65) which we won in 2008, the Veteran Darwin (Over 75) and the Grafton Morrish.
A fund has been created to keep the cost of OT golf to a minimum for those who are under the age of 25 and younger OT golfers are very much encouraged to join in. Many of our young players get their first experience of what OTGS golf is about for the first time in the annual match against the School.
We try very hard to make sure that OTGS golf is the greatest possible fun for all members regardless of their ability and those playing in our meetings will always find themselves playing with congenial companions during the day. For information on how to join, see the Membership page. Do come and play, you will be really welcome.
