In order to keep the Knockout moving, please understand that the matches must be played by these dates, and the winner should notify the competition manager - David Golding-Wood (email: darenthmeade@yahoo.co.uk or telephone 01959 522220) immediately after the match with the result and score. Failure to play in time will result in the match being decided by the toss of a coin made by the competition manager, who will notify the players of the result of the toss.

Dispensation to play the match late will only be given if the players have notified David Golding-Wood before the "play by" date that their match has been arranged on a specific date within two weeks of that date.

Rules of Engagement

  1. The player nearer the top of the draw is the "Home" player.
  2. The "Home" player shall decide which (men's) tees shall be used.
  3. Matches will be played on handicap (¾ of the difference).
  4. The "Home" player will concede two additional shots after the calculation of handicaps if the "Visitor" has not played that course four or more times previously.
  5. If the "Visitor" has played the course more than four times previously he will receive only one additional shot after calculation of handicaps.
  6. There will be no additional shots allowed (after calculation of handicaps) if the "Visitor" is also a member of the club where the match is played.
  7. If the "Home" player is not a member of a club, his opponent may choose to play the match at his own club (thus becoming the "Home" player). In the event that the match is played on neutral territory ¾ handicap shall be the basis of the match.
  8. The "Visitor's" green fee shall be shared between the players.
  9. Each player shares the onus of arranging his forthcoming match with his opponent, not just the top/home player.
  10. Any queries should be referred to the competition manager, David Golding-Wood, and who shall be the arbiter in the event of any disputes.

There is absolutely no compulsion but, if the "Visitor" has to travel a long way, the offer of supper and accommodation the night before the game would be a nice gesture - assuming the "Home" player actually has bed space and lives near his club!

I am sorry to be dogmatic about rules and timing but if competitors aren't pushed it all goes wrong!

And do try to play your matches in very good time. It is always a shame to see walkovers being given.

Enjoy your matches!
