Given the poor forecast and dreadfully wet conditions over the past couple of days, we were fortunate to play our annual match against the school in the dry, save the odd drizzle towards the end.

The young school team with handicaps ranging from 8-24 showed their mettle and provided some very stiff opposition, and at times excellent shot making to see off some seasoned campaigners.

The Hon Sec. and Partridge, both perhaps without their "’A’ game, were suitably dispatched by a very talented pair who need nurturing for the future.

Our young pair of Munro and Boreham, and the slightly more senior pair of Cooper and Brice both had enjoyable games and more to the point, winning matches.

Francis Sumner, after his recent success at the Captains Day at Hayling Island and playing partner Mark Fleming, looked like a definite win. However the new Novi Cowdrey Scholar, Ben Brenton, had other ideas and snatched victory on the last green.

Mertons and Stowell bringing up the rear had a hugely enjoyable game and being all square at the 15th, apparently were in complete control, with Stowell playing particularly well, and against the couple of young 18 handicappers, what could go wrong! Net birdie, birdie - game over!

On a brighter note, Peter Morris managed a magnificent 2/1 victory over James Nicholls, master in charge, in his singles match. Thanks Peter.

Wildernesse, after the rain, looks and played quite magnificently. Well played boys, but watch out next year!
