OTGS v Old Wellingtonians Report from Richard Gracey
This was a fun match despite the fact that I had a nightmare geeting the team together. I picked up my last player at 9.00pm the night before so he was most welcome!
In the top match Richard Gracey and Jonathan Stowell proved a formidable pair and after 5 holes were 5 up. Jonathan looked a class act and could progress well in the game if he so wishes.
The match between Robin Berkeley / Keith Chapman and Roger Spurling / Barry Campbell was a well-contested affair. The Tonbridge couple (Hon. Sec. : we boys like to refer to them as pairs Richard) had their chances, but failed to take them and eventually we lost on the last green.
Michael Jenkins and Richard Roberts were well matched against Martin Gairdner and Nick Anderson. Again the contest went to the wire but the OWs took control late on to win by 2/1.
The final match, Philip Meredith / David Roberts v John Goodeve-Docker / Charles Baker could have gone either way. The trump card was David Roberts who hit some telling shots and paved the way to snatching a win and halving the overall match.
Royal Ashdown looked magnificent and the greens were a treat so it was a privilege to play on a great course in such fine fettle.
We were well looked after in the Dining Room too so everyone had a really enjoyable day.
