Seniors Invitation Meeting

Date:16th May 2007
Venue:R.Ashdown Forest G.C.

Report

A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by 30 of us who were blessed with a dry day after almost continuous rain for the previous fortnight had left us all fearing the worst!

Ashdown was looking at its very best. The Club had staged the England v Spain Amateur International the previous weekend and, though the greens after all the rain were inevitably slower than we might have wished, they were very smooth. The lunch was marvellous and the inaugural participants at our Invitation Day for the Over 55s seemed to enjoy the day enormously. It is greatly to be hoped that this will be a trailblazer for future years and that even more of our members will come along with a guest to see what very nice people our friends (and we!) are!

The winning pair was Peter Morris and his guest Jeremy Barham. They recorded a remarkable better ball score of 49 Stableford points. Peter himself belied his handicap of 21 by returning a gross 84 and hopefully his card will find its way to Lamberhurst GC for drastic rearrangement of his handicap.

The team event was won by the four comprising Richard Dresner and his guest Roger Stanley (OT) who played alongside the Hon. Secretary and his guest David Ham (not the OTGS member but another David Ham). Their excellent score of 94 points for their two best balls (three best balls on the short holes) just pipped Morris and Barham's team score on countback (49 to 47 on the back 9).

We will repeat the format next year and will hope that even more teams will come along. It really was fun.
