Captain’s Day

Date:14th August 2008
Venue:West Sussex GC, Pulborough

Report

West Sussex Golf Club provided the warmest of welcomes for the dozen members who attended.  The President had the misfortune to get a flat tyre that prevented him attending but, with typical thoughtfulness found a substitute- We were all delighted that another Hewitt team member, in the shape of Colin Jones stepped in at the last minute. Delight gave way to admiration after the morning,  then to awe after the afternoon as he played quite splendid golf to win both rounds. His partners were David Golding-Wood in the morning and Trevor Mills in the afternoon. Foursomes on a course with so much thick heather calls for accurate play so they more than played their part.

The Captain also provided a aconsolation prize for the  player with the best aggregate, who had not won the morning or afternoon round. This kept him in the good books of The Hon. Sec. as he presented him with a bottle of Sussex wine.

Several people made favourable comments after the event  We had  an enjoyble day on a fine course. For those who were less successful on the course, there was always the consolation of a magnificent lunch.
