O.T.s v The Wildernesse Club : Saturday 13th September 2008
Report from Dr David Evans
On a rare warm and sunny September day a select group of OTs had a superb days golf on the excellent Wildernesse course. It was in some ways slightly strange as for the first time in well over 40 years the indomitable Ian Jackson was not organising the match, having moved westwards to Dorset. However, we remembered and toasted him at lunch.
The match itself after some late withdrawals was three pairs morning and afternoon. Peter Abelson had arrived less than 24 hours earlier from Australia and was still not quite sure what time zone he was in. This did not stop him and the Captain for the day (Dr. David Evans) scraping home for the only win of the morning after being 4 down after the first 4 holes. David Reich and Tim Mertens found The Wildernesse Captain and Francis Sumner (not an OT for the day) just too strong. Similarly Trevor Mills and Nick Woodcock just failed to prevail against their opponents.
After the usual excellent Wildernesse lunch the afternoon matches went the same way as the morning with the OTs only able to gain a single point. This did not seem to dampen the spirit of the day and once again we thank the Club for their friendliness and hospitality.Morning
Peter Abelson & David Evans beat Ian Cowdroy and Peter Madderson
Tim Mertens and David Reich lost to Neil Cameron and Francis Sumner
Trevor Mills and Nick Woodcock lost to James Howard and Geoff Pigot
Afternoon
Peter Abelson and Tim Mertens lost to Geoff Pigot and Francis Sumner
David Evans and Trevor Mills beat Neil Cameron and Peter Madderson
David Reich and Nick Woodcock lost to Ian Cowdroy and James Howard
Result 4-2 to Wildernesse
