OTGS v Old Cranleighans at R.Ashdown Forest on March 29th.
Report from Charlie Davies
Pleased to report that we won 3-1 in an enjoyable match against OCs.
Thought that as everyone was grown -up I wouldn't have to remind them that
the clocks went forward & so didn't . Silly me , there's always one & so it
was that David Woodcock rang well after we were due off to advise that he
might be a couple of minutes late - I said that he was already an hour
after our agreed meeting time & that we might forgive him if he paid for
the wine at lunch. His Nickname is now Clocky Woodcock .
In his defence, as you will see, he got a point on the board for us ...
eventually.... & ensured when we were all waiting for his match to come in
that 2-1 became 3-1. My star pairing of Rob Kemp & Will Fetherston failed
to come through & make it a drubbing but as you can see had a good
hard-fought match. But there's still nothing much worse than losing to
Cranleighans !
Kempy (Tim) was there in full flow & whilst he had over selected for the
morning & thus had to stand down , he made up at lunch & played with
predominantly OCs in the afternoon to walk off the lunchtime exertions.
Ashdown being so bl**dy hilly & 4 of us being members ( one with a gammy
back), only 2 OTs decided to play in the afternoon but we had agreed to
have a morning only match despite Kempy suggesting otherwise once he
discovered the position at lunch.
Another very enjoyable match with 2 new OT members in it being Andrew Sims
who played beautifully off 9 to ensure we had a good win & Chris Rash(13 at
Walton Heath) who also got a point for OTs in his first outing.
Result:-
Will Fetherston & Rob Kemp lost to David Hobden & David Powell 2 down
Charlie Davies & Andrew Sims beat Antony Fey & Richard Williams 3 &2
Simon Lee & Nick Sanderson beat John Davies & Michael Hobden 2&1
David Clocky Woodcock & Chris Rash beat David Willis & Mickey Moore 2&1
