The Littlestone Invitation Foursomes 2009 Report from William Marle
On 11 October the OTGS played in the Littlestone Invitation Foursomes, an event that we have played in since it started in the early 1980s and which we last won in 2007. Last year the event had to be abandoned/curtailed due to bad weather after 18 holes. This year, playing with the host club, the weather was a little bit kinder (but not that kind) but we did not get so wet in the morning that we could not go out in the afternoon. A solid first round by both pairs put the team in one of the top spots, so the afternoon became all about keeping it going. The Robert Taggart / Adrian Betts pair ensured the team victory with the best round of the day, scoring 37 points to go with their 32 points from the morning. This combined with the William Marle / David Evans team producing 30 points (despite a 'good' lunch) gave the team victory with a team total of 133 stableford points beating Lingfield Park into second place, with their 129 points with Littlestone GC third.
The event has a 'one prize' only rule, otherwise Taggart / Betts would have won the individual prize as well!
The team comprised
William Marle and David Evans - 34 points followed by 30
Robert Taggart and Adrian Betts - 32 points followed by 37
