Match vs Old Cranleighans

Date:28th March 2010
Venue:Royal Ashdown Forest G.C.

Result: Won 4 1/2-1/2

An enjoyable day was spent playing against Old Cranleighans at Royal Ashdown. This is a very relaxed fixture with the match being decided in the morning due to the organiser's inability to manage 2 rounds on the challenging and very hilly Ashdown course.

Other match organisers will be more than aware of the challenges  especially when faced with a drop-out on Saturday morning.Fortunately the Secretary of OT Society ( still but not for much longer),Peter Morris, came to the rescue and we became a team of 10 once more.Whilst everyone playing was younger than the organiser ( not hard) we only had one real young member in the form of Nick Sanderson jnr so it would be great if we could have more for 2011.

We had a resounding victory by 4 1/2 points to 1/2 point but all matches were closely contested & a very good lunch was enjoyed by all.Despite the clocks going forward David 'Clocky' Woodcock made it in time and showed what great form he is in by following his win against our Secretary in the OT knock-out with another win against the OCs.Another notable 1/2 point was clocked up by David Sowrey who halved playing with David Roberts against the OCs' Captain David Hobden. I say that this was notable because only a couple of weeks before he had lost in a Lloyd's match against a gentleman who hitherto had , it is suggested, never won a game of golf!

So a cracking day was had by all with those that had the energy & will going out in the afternoon for a few more holes in order to walk off the rigours of lunch.
