Seniors' Invitation Meeting

Date:12th May 2010
Venue:Royal Ashdown Forest G.C.

Result:

Prior arrangements, fixture clashes and injuries restricted the field to 6 OTs and 4 guests who enjoyed one of the sunniest days so far, albeit tempered by this year’s now habitual cold wind.

Separate OTs and Guests singles stableford competitions were played as two-balls, and no-one found the conditions at all easy.

Giles Craven, making his first OTGS appearance, secured the ONLY birdie of the day on the first hole and achieved third place with 31 points. Keith Chapman was second OT with 33, but the runaway winner (with 5 pars in a first half of 22 points) was Roger Stanley on 38 points. Other OTs participating were Colin Vokins, Philip Meredith and John Crates.

The Guest competition was closer run with Adrian Hope’s 32 losing out to Clive Herrington’s 34 points. Had the usual better ball format been played, Roger and Adrian would have achieved a formidable 44 points, notwithstanding a double zero on the 12th.

Although many previous attendees of this event were greatly missed, the company was convivial and enjoyed fully the usual Royal Ashdown fare which easily enabled us to conclude that quality, not quantity makes the event.
