Our Society

The OTGS welcomes OT golfers who wish to join the Society. We are able to cater for a broad spread of abilities, from scratch golfers to those who play off longer handicaps.

We have a busy calendar of matches, meetings and competitive golf from February to November each year, which includes: –

  • The Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter meetings
  • 10 longstanding matches against other Old Boys Societies and Clubs, many of which are played at the weekend
  • Various golf days (e.g. the Cricketer Cup Golf Trophy, The Three Schools Challenge, The Hector Padgham Trophy)

For those members with lower handicaps and a desire to play competitive match play foursomes, we enter the Halford Hewitt, Grafton Morrish and Bernard Darwin competitions each year. The Halford Hewitt is the leading Old Boys’ event and 64 teams of ten players (5 pairs) compete at Royal Cinque Ports and Royal St George’s every year. Tonbridge have been particularly successful in this competition in recent years, winning the trophy on nine occasions since 1990. We also enter a team in the Grafton Morrish each year. The finals of this competition are usually held in the autumn at Hunstanton and Royal West Norfolk. Finally, for our senior golfers, we enter the Bernard Darwin, Senior Darwin and Veteran Darwin trophies all of which are played at Woking in June/July.

Additionally, we organise an Annual Handicap Knockout competition in which c.60 members take part each year. The semi-finals and final are usually played on the same day at a leading golf course. In recent years finals day has been held at West Sussex, Hankley Common and Burhill.

Members are encouraged to apply to play in our matches and meetings without waiting to be invited. It is easy to apply for our events on the Fixtures page of the website.

The OTGS is fortunate to attract OT golfers of all ages. However, we particularly want to encourage younger OTs to join the Society. For those OTs who are younger than 23 years of age membership is just £5 per annum and for all golfers under the age of 30 generous subsidies are available.

For information on how to join, see the how to join page. Do come and play, you will be very welcome.
