OTGS vs The Wildernesse - 5th October 2019
Our fixture against The Wildernesse is always played amongst familiar faces and in very good spirit. This year was no exception. Despite the heavy rain in the week leading up to the match, the course was in fantastic condition with true greens and lush fairways. Equally impressive was our hosts' warm reception and hospitality which is always forthcoming year after year.
Following a delicious bacon bap breakfast, Josh Payne lead the OT charge in a solo effort vs Mark Newnham and Andy Chapman. A solid start from Josh unfortunately was not enough to keep the ever-consistent Newnham and steady Chapman from delivering a victory for our hosts. The match went all the way to the 17th with Josh losing 2&1.
Alberto Landi and Ben Hulme were the second pairing and were facing a solid partnership of Hamish Dickson and Alan Ramsey. A shaky start from OT pair saw them lose the opening three holes but the two OTs dove-tailed well thereafter to make up the deficit and ensure a nip and tuck match all the way to the finish. With the Wildernesse 1up with one to play, Hulme's inspired club selection on the last made the difference as he won the hole and ensured the draw.
Next to step up were OTs Oliver Boreham and David Reich who were opposing David Hobart and Josh Thomas. I'm afraid to say that they had a difficult day around Seal's countryside. Their opponents just proved to be too consistent and ruthless to give the OT pair a chance and the match ended 6&5 to The WIldernesse.
The final pairing of David Golding-Wood and Ben Brandt were facing Steve Thomson and Jon Ely. Not many quarters were given by either pair with the match proving to be very tight for its duration. Big hitting Brandt and a solid Golding-Wood went the distance but were unable to secure the victory and lost the last hole to concede their match by 1.
As ever this fixture was excellent fun and played with its usual good humour and friendliness. The OTGS would like to thank The Wildernesse for hosting us again and for making us feel so welcome as well as for looking after us so brilliantly. We're already looking forward to next year's renewal.
